What qualifications do I need?

You must demonstrate an ability to work at degree level. For a place on this course you will need to meet the following criteria:

    • One Higher qualification (preferably English or a social subject) and/or considerable practical experience of working in a care setting.
    • If you've left school within the last five years, you'll need at least Higher English and another social subject
    • At interview, be able to complete a written task demonstrating your knowledge and understanding of counselling.
    • Provide 2 suitable references

Offers will be conditional on completion of Certiicate in Counselling Skills SL5 delivered through West College Scotland Distance Learning.

What can I do after?

After successfully completing the course, you’ll be able to work within an agency or organisation where counselling skills are required, or progress onto further study in counselling before qualifying as a Counsellor

You could also articulate onto a range of degree courses including:

        • Psychology
        • Social Sciences
        • Mental Health Nursing

As well as continuing to become a qualified Counsellor through further study, students choosing to study Social Sciences, including Psychology, also has the advantage of keeping your career options open with successful students moving into careers such as: social research, media research, human resources, public relations, teaching, policing, social work, charity, and community-based work.
