What will I learn?
This course is designed to engage and motivate candidates who are interested in learning about the automotive retail industry. It is aimed at learners who prefer and respond to 'hands-on' learning. Therefore, it has a practical approach to assessment and includes many visual questioning techniques which will stimulate and interest learners.
The course is ideal for those learners who wish to undertake a qualification which will support their progress to a higher-level. It can also supplement their progress to Nationals and other appropriate destinations such as Employment, a Modern Apprenticeship (College Day Release) or to the next level of study.
During the course candidates will undertake the following units:
- Health and Safety in the Workplace
- Locating, Interpreting and Using Technical Information
- Applying Engineering Techniques in an Automotive Environment
- Knowledge Relating to Automotive Foundation Skills
- Preparation to Become a Vehicle Driver
- Reducing Risks When Driving Vehicles
- Health and Safety Practices in a Maintenance and Repair Environment
- Tools, Equipment and Consumable Materials for Vehicle Maintenance
- Routine Vehicle Maintenance Processes and Procedures
- Light Vehicle Braking System Components and Maintenance
- Light Vehicle Wheel and Tyre Construction and Maintenance
- Light Vehicle Exhaust System Components and Maintenance
- Lighting System Maintenance
What qualifications do I need?
Completion of IMI Award/Certificate for the Introduction to Motor Vehicle Industry and Technologies is desirable and it is also recommended that candidates have a National 4 Grade in Maths, English and a Science based subject, this may be waived dependant on candidate experience, maturity and interest in working in the retail automotive industry at the discretion of the department.
Access to a laptop/digital device (This may be available as a loan device if required) and an internet connection will be advantageous.
What can I do after?
This qualification may allow candidates to progress into Employment, a Modern Apprenticeship (College Day Release) or to the following IMI Qualifications:
- Full time:IMI Diploma in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Principles at SCQF Level 5
- Part time: IMI Level 1 Award in Electric/Hybrid Vehicle Awareness
