Why study at West?
Do you need some help to become work ready? Have you already completed a Learner Development course, or a mainstream course, and now want to hone your employability skills? If so, this is the course for you. Students attend college in conjunction with a work placement. The college has effective partnerships with a variety of local employers and can help you find suitable work experience.
What will I learn?
This course is designed for young people who are ready to make the transition into the workplace with guided support. You'll learn about:
- Responsibilities of employment
- Customer care
- Workplace skills
- Self-awareness about work
- IT and Digital literacies including skills development for remote learning and remote working
There's also a work placement lasting at least 190 hours.
What qualifications do I need?
For a place on the course you'll need to attend an interview and demonstrate an enthusiastic, positive attitude. You should be motivated and a good team worker, keen to enter the world of work. You must also be able to travel independently.
To be offered a place on a course applicants should: demonstrate a willingness to participate in classroom activities; behave appropriately in a classroom setting, and; demonstrate an ability to communicate at the course level.

After successfully completing this course you'll have the skills needed to get work.
