Course Aims
This introduction to welding course will equip first time welders of MIG and MMA with the fundamental knowledge and skills to weld. It is a blend of practical and theoretical training and it will provide information on the most commonly used welding processes of MIG and MMA (stick) welding work, practical instruction on the operation and applications, and the safe use and handling of the equipment.

On completion of the course, candidates will be able to perform basic welding tasks, manage equipment to a competent standard and have a general understanding of health & safety procedures.
Progression to a CSWTO accredited Welding qualification can be achieved based on previous industry experience. Competence will be assessed when you attend the course and further training / testing can take place at a later date.
Outline of Programme
- Safely and Correctly use Manual Metal Arc (MMA) & Metal Active Gas (MAG) equipment.
- Identify and Assemble the Necessary Welding Equipment.
- Safe Set Up of Equipment and Preparing to Weld.
- Correctly Choose Welding Processes and Materials for Different Applications.
- Strike and Maintain the Welding Arc & Identify Process Technique Deficiencies.
- Weld fillet joints in a variety of positions.
- Correctly Identify Welding Defects and their Causes.
Entry Requirements
No formal qualifications are required, however you should be practically minded. Applicants must provide their own proban coated overalls and steel toe capped boots.
Exam
No formal exam. Candidates will be presented with a college certificate of attendance on completion.

2 days. 9am to 4pm.
