What will I learn?
This course prepares you to undertake roles, which support children and young people in an educational setting and will provide a platform to those already working in educational support roles.
You'll learn about:
- Supporting Children and Young People in an Educational Setting
- Professional Practice in an Educational Setting
- Supporting the Behaviour of Children and Young People
During the course you'll spend two days a week on placement in a school.
What qualifications do I need?
Mature students can apply without formal qualifications.
You will need passes in four subjects at SCQF Level 5 band A-C, including English. Equivalent qualifications are also considered.
If you have successfully completed National 5 Skills for Work Childcare or NPA Playwork and Childcare or have achieved a Social Services Children & Young People Foundation Apprenticeship, your application will be considered. .
For a place on the course, you will need to submit a personal statement and attend an interview, bringing proof of your qualifications. You will also need to provide two references.
You must be eligible to join the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme.
What can I do after?
After successfully completing this course, you will have the knowledge and skills required for the role of an educational support assistant. You are eligible to register with the Scottish Social Services Council.

This course will be delivered via a face-to-face learning on campus. There may be some opportunities for remote learning off-campus and digital learning approaches..
