Having grown up in Inverness and studied at the University of Glasgow, Nathan began a career in broadcast news in London. First with Reuters and then with Sky News where he was involved in telling the story of some of the biggest news events of the last 25 years.
With a specialism in audience engagement and the use of video in mass communications he helped lead Sky’s transition to a digital-first news provider before moving to BFBS to lead a digital transformation of their output and communications. Moving back to Scotland in 2017 as Editor of News and Current Affairs at STV he was responsible for programmes including Scotland Tonight, and the innovative multi-platform STV News Tonight.
A guest speaker and lecturer in the UK and China on media transformation and audience experience, Nathan has also created and delivered Digital Content courses for the Ministry of Defence, Intelligence Services and Armed Forces communicators.
In 2016 he was involved in founding the Forces Media Academy – a ground-breaking educational establishment offering armed forces veterans, many with complex needs, the opportunity to learn new skills and gain HNC/HND qualifications in media production in real world environments.
Prior to joining the team at West College Scotland he supported, coordinated and led 8 multi-national communications and strategic engagement teams in one of Scotland’s most important food sectors – telling the stories of thousands of people living and working in some of the country’s most remote and fragile communities.
